Vacuum pump coupling for RTI A/C machines with JB vacuum pumps. This is usually the only thing that breaks with a RTI vacuum pump and this piece can help you avoid replacing your entire vacuum pump which can be costly. This coupler is in place in case the pump side locks up, the electric motor doesn’t burn up or overheat trying to continue pushing it. When these fail the vacuum pump may be noisy or not run at all. It will sound like the motor is running but nothing is happening and the pump will be silent.

Diagnostic and Replacement Procedure:

This is a easy fix for that most of the time. The coupling is positioned between the electric motor and the aluminum vacuum pump housing on the motor shaft. Make sure machine is unplugged from the outlet. After unbolting the bolts securing the vacuum pump assembly to the ac machine, by rolling the pump on its side you should be able to see your coupler from the bottom of the pump. Sometimes the middle plastic section will break and cause the motor to be disconnected from the pump. Other times the aluminum adapters can break or split causing the motor or pump shafts to free spin and pump to fail. To replace loosen the allen set screws on the coupler that tighten down on the shafts of both the motor and pump. Next remove the 4  1/4 head long motor bolts that run through the motor body all the way into the pump. Carefully lift the motor away from the pump, support both ends of the motor so it doesn’t fall apart when lifted. Remove old coupler noting position on shafts so you can position the new coupler in the same location. Re install all pieces in reverse order.
