This shaft is the pivot on which the carriage lock / safety latch rotates. It is used in both the slave-side latch assembly (Drawing 1) and the master-side carriage lock/operating-handle assembly (Drawing 3).
Direct replacement for the original factory shaft. A worn or scored latch shaft can cause sticky lock engagement; replace along with the latch spring and spacers when servicing the safety system.
