The overhead lifting chains on a Forward 4-post chain-driven car lift are a critical wear component. Each chain attaches to the main hydraulic cylinder mounted on top of the beam, makes a 90-degree turn over a roller at the end of the overhead beam, and connects down to the crossbeam inside the column. Over time, link pins wear and can spin, individual links may crack or break, and a seized or worn roller can accelerate chain damage. A chain that has stretched beyond its service limit or shows any cracked links must be replaced immediately to maintain lift safety. Industry best practice is to inspect overhead chains at every scheduled lift service interval and replace the full chain end-to-end rather than individual links. Always inspect the overhead beam rollers for free rotation whenever chains are replaced.
